Process for alloying silicon particles on a light metal base material of a cylinder lining comprises guiding one or more lasers in a translatory movement along the lining, irradiating along a line across the longitudinal axis, and introducing silicon particles into the laser melt obtained. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Coated cylinder lining; and (2) Device for carrying out the process.
