The safety door (2) etc. has a first part (4) with an aperture (5) closed by a second part (6). The device (1) has a safety switch with a switch element (7) on the first part and an actuator (8) on the second part. A locking device (9) to maintain the door shut, has two moveable ratchet elements (10,12), which engage with the actuator during closing of the door. This allows the second ratchet element to release a locking element (11), which engages into an aperture in the first ratchet element to limit its movement. This stops the actuator from being moved out of the locking device, to maintain the door closed.
