The engine has a mechanical loader propelled from an internal-combustion engine. An intake line after the loader is arranged near a throttle valve. The intake face of the loader connects to a circulating air line, in which a switching device is arranged. Before the loader (8) a further throttle valve (17) is arranged, where the inlet line is between the further throttle valve (11) and the loader with a vacuum pipe (18a, 18b) branches off. The vacuum piping is connected to the branching unit and to a brake booster (20). An independent claim is included for a method.
