To shape a hollow profile, with a closed peripheral mantle, the hollow blank (10) within the mold is filled with a fluid at a high pressure to be expanded into the required shape. As the blank is expanded, it is supported externally by a membrane (12) under a controlled pressure, which is gradually reduced as the blank increases its dimensions within the mold structure. The blank is raised within the mold by two dies (6,7), and is supported by the membrane over its whole length. |
