NONHUMAN DIABETIC ANIMAL MODEL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an animal model of diabetes such as juvenile onset adult diabetes and permanent neonatal diabetes. SOLUTION: This nonhuman diabetic animal model has a glucokinase gene having the base substitution of one of the following (A) and (B): (A): the substitution of guanine at the first position of an intron just after exon 1A, cytosine at the third position from the 3' side of an intron just before exon 3, and thymine at the second position of an intron just after exon 8 with other bases; and (B): the substitution of the following amino acids of a protein encoded by the glucokinase gene at the following positions of its amino acid sequence with the following amino acids: cysteine at the 220th position with tyrosine; valine at the 182nd position with methionine; tyrosine at the 273rd position and arginine at the 345th position with terminal codons; threonine at the 228th position with alanine; phenylalanine at the 419th position with leucine; threonine at the 206th position with methionine; and serine at the 127th position with proline.
