PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system capable of smoothly changing map data being read in accordance with the current position. SOLUTION: The navigation system is equipped with a GPS 15 detecting the current position; a DVD drive 16 reading out a map from a DVD 100 which records a plurality of maps partially overlapping each other; a memory card 18 storing information for identifying an overlap portion which overlaps another map, in a map being in use of the navigation; and a CPU 11 determining whether or not coordinates of the current position are included in the overlap portion, based on the coordinates of the current position and the information stored in the memory card 18, and controlling the DVD drive 16 so as to read out maps sharing the overlap portion from the DVD 100, in accordance with a determination that the coordinates of the current position are included in the overlap portion.
