A portable lighting device for mobile use at a crime scene includes a light source and light guide 12. The device also has alternative power terminals for connection with a battery 11 or mains supply. The light source comprises a mercury ultra high pressure lamp. The mercury lamp preferably operates with an inner pressure of 2x10<7> Pa (200bar), preferably with a power consumption of 100W to 120W, and preferably emits light of a wavelength between 300 and 700nm. The light guide may contain a liquid core. The device may also include a filter wheel (20, fig 2) for further control of the light, a telescopic lamp stand 14, and a fan (23, fig. 2) for cooling the lamp. The device is particularly useful for forensic work due to short warm-up times, low battery weight and efficient ultraviolet light output. |
