A seating support composite beam 100 comprises a pair of substantially identical half-beams 1 interlocked with one another along at least a portion of their respective lengths. Each half-beam preferably has an interlocking part comprising a channel 4 and a rib 3. The half-beams may interlock such that the end of a half-beam is midway between the ends of the other half beam (fig 10). Further half-beams can be introduced. The beam is flexible in a direction normal to the interlocking surface, and stiff in other directions (fig 4). Also claimed is a composite beam not limited to interlocking a seating support and a method of installing a composite beam to create a seat support (figs 7-9). The composite beam allows a seat support which has a continuous arc of variable radius as opposed to having short straight lengths. |
