The present application presents an arc stud welding device (1) and method, wherein after initial contact of a stud (5) with a component (7) to which it is to be welded, the stud (5) is lifted by an amount that permits a proper arc to be formed, even if the component (7) was depressed by the initial contact with the stud (5). After melting of the tip of the stud (5) and a portion of the welded component (7), the stud (5) is pressed securely into the component (7) to weld the stud (5) to the component (7), with the component (7) being depressed by the stud (5) to an extent greater than that caused by the initial contact. <IMAGE> |
