A release agent for electrolytic silver. The release agent contains no cyanide, has a long life, and is highly effective in silver release from edge sides. It inhibits the necessary silver surface parts from having unevenness of surface roughness or an increased gloss after silver release. The release agent for electrolytic silver comprises a hydantoin compound and an aminocarboxylic acid or salt thereof as major ingredients. The hydantoin compound preferably is hydantoin, 5,5-dimethylhydantoin, 5, 5-dimethyl-3-hydroxymethylhydantoin, allantoin, or a salt of any of these. The aminocarboxylic acid or salt preferably is aspartic acid, glutamic acid, or a salt of either.
