A piling system comprises a pile having a plurality of sections 1,2,3,4 joined together end to end by couplers 5 to form the required pile length wherein each section 1,2,3,4 is arranged and/or adapted to provide a desired interaction with the ground to control the adherence between the pile and the ground. The sections 1,2,3,4 may be of different diameter and/or have a smooth or roughened external surface. At least one section 1,2,3,4 may be provided with one or more projections along all or part of the length of the section. The lead section 1 may be provided with a helical rib. |
