<p>The headlight unit for a vehicle has at least two light modules (1) which are pivotable relative to one another, at least one pivot module (2) mounted to pivot around an axis and accommodating one of the light modules, and at least one support frame (3) which is connected to the light module. The support frame is mounted to pivot around a second axis which extends perpendicularly to the first. The first axis extends vertically and the second horizontally. An independent claim is included for a method for the adaptive illuminating of a route in which with a simultaneous operation of at least two light modules at least one can pivot to establish at least two illuminating states.</p>
