PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the release of lock by hitting a driver's knee to a tilt lock mechanism. SOLUTION: A fixed gear 31 with fixed teeth 31a is provided on a lower column member side. A movable gear 32 with movable teeth 32a is provided swingably around a pin 26 on an upper column member side. A wedge shape member 33 with a slant surface 33b is inserted between the push-press surface 35a of a reaction force member 35 and the taper surface 32b of the movable gear 32 and the movable teeth 32a are meshed and locked for the fixed teeth 31a. The lock is released by pulling an operation lever and moving the wedge shape member 33 to the right side in a picture. As the wedge shape member 33 can be formed thin and covered by the reaction force member 35 under the state arranged on a lock position, the lock of the movable gear 32 is not released by hitting a driver's knee to the wedge shape member 33, even if there is no cover. |
