Water to be treated containing ammonium and nitrite is fed to an anaerobic ammonium oxidation vessel(12) to denitrify ammonium and nitrite by anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria, and the denitrified treated water is fed to an acclimatization vessel(14), so that anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria are attached to an immobilizing material and collected as immobilized microorganisms.
