The packaging is for an orthogonal, parallelepiped food product, particularly lard, and comprises an enclosing sheet located against the product, laid around four of its peripheral surfaces. The sheet has side edges which are folded over and cover two opposing product end surfaces, which are at right-angles to the peripheral surfaces. The sheet has a first peripheral end edge part (3A), which overlaps an opposing end edge part (3B). Two of the product peripheral surfaces have a greater length peripherally than the other peripheral surfaces. The overlapping area between the sheet end edge parts is located on one of the longer product peripheral surfaces. The sheet is formed from cardboard material with bending lines (20,31,34) along the product edge lines to form stiff panels between the bending lines.
