An aromatic amine derivative having a specific structure comprising a pyrene structure and a substituted diphenylamino group bonded thereto; and an organic electroluminescent element comprising a cathode, an anode, and one or more thin organic layers sandwiched therebetween comprising at least a luminescent layer, wherein at least one of the thin organic layers consists only of the material for organic electroluminescent elements or contains the material as a component of a mixture. The aromatic amine derivative realizes the material for organic electroluminescent elements which has a long life and emits a blue color at a high luminescence efficiency.
