摘要 A reflection type liquid crystal display element and a liquid crystal display unit which can eliminate or minimize a defective orientation specific to a vertically-oriented liquid crystal that is caused by a pixel groove structure, and implement a high contrast and a good image quality. A reflection type pixel electrode (42) has an inclined shape on its outer periphery, and form a diverging trapezoidal shape with its electrode width gradually increasing from the upper to lower sides. With the side surfaces of the pixel electrode (42) inclined to eliminate verticality within a section, liquid crystal molecules oriented horizontally can be eliminated at an electrode end in a pixel groove portion. Even if an orientation is locally disturbed slightly in a horizontal direction, a mutual action with surrounding vertically- oriented liquid crystal molecules can provide a sufficient verticality even in a pixel groove portion.
