Method for reducing the chromium content of metallurgical slags containing 2 - 4 wt% of Cr comprises adding them to a bath of molten iron containing less than 1 wt% C. The carbon content is then raised to 2 - 4 wt% while simultaneously adding energy. Slag with a Cr content of 0.1 wt% is produced and separated off. A cooling agent, especially scrap metal, is added to the molten iron and its C content lowered to below 1 wt%. Part of the Cr-containing melt is separated off and the remainder passed to the converter for treating a new batch of melt.
|
