A method of baking carbonate lumpy rocks includes incorporation of gaseous fuel and air for the combustion thereof through lateral and central burners, heat treatment of carbonate rocks in the furnace serially in the zones of warming up, burning (countercurrent and direct flow) and cooling, taking away furnace gases through the top of furnace (warming up zone) and from the direct flow burning zone. A gaseous fuel is entered into the direct flow zone of furnace at the distance of 0.5-0.8 D from the plane of joint of burning zones, where D -the internal diameter of the furnace, and burned at the air excess coefficient of 0.4-0.8, and fuel, entered on the periphery, is burned with the air excess coefficient of 1.2-1.4. The ratio of pressure differences on the ends of zones is maintained in the range of 5-20. The air for fuel combustion is heated in the heat-exchanger with furnace gases. The stability of process of burning out is provided and lime quality is increased .
