The protector (5) for the edges (4) of a composition panel (1) that is multi-layered and self-stiffened is made from closed-cell plastic foam block with U-shaped cross-section, fixed over the panel edge by any appropriate means, such as a mastic (6). The protector has a covering layer (7) of glass or plastic and is coated at least partially with an impact-revealing paint (9).
