The mechanism has two flanges (7,8) and a dowel (11a) with a teeth series (12a) and a pinion (15a) axially projecting on the dowel. The flange (8) has a teeth series (13) having an irregularity (26) in a manner to avoid partial notching of the teeth series (12a) in the teeth series (13) when the pinion contacts with the irregularity and in the case where the irregularity has wear and tear or deformation. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle seat comprising an articulation mechanism.
