PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high purity sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution in which the concentration of bromine compounds is low. SOLUTION: The method for producing the sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution includes a first process for liquefying gaseous chlorine (A) containing gaseous bromine, a second process for separating chlorine liquefied in the first process from remaining gaseous chlorine (B) not liquefied, and a third process for obtaining the sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution in which the content of the bromine compounds is≤40 ppm expressed in terms of BrO<SB>3</SB><SP>-</SP>by reacting the separated gaseous chlorine (B) with a sodium hydroxide aqueous solution.
