PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selection method based on a cardinal number sort capable of selecting designated data on the basis of a viewpoint of the cardinal number sort performing sorting in each digit when selecting data of largeness of a designated order from a data set comprising a plurality of pieces of data, especially capable of expecting high-speed selection as compared to quick selection performing selection on the basis of a viewpoint of a quick sort, and to provide a device therefor and a program therefor. SOLUTION: In this method selecting data on the basis of the viewpoint of the cardinal number sort performing sorting in each the digit, a group including the designated data is specified from a plurality of digit-sorted and classified groups in order from a head digit with all data of the data set as a set of target data to be digit-sorted, the specified group is set as the set of the target data to be next digit-sorted, and a sorting process in each the digit is repeated until the designated data are specified.
