A control device is provided for modulating the rotation speed of a processing cylinder (6) when a first sub-segment of its outer surface passes onto an impression cylinder (7), so that the surface speeds of the processing cylinder and impression cylinder are the same. When a second sub-segment constituting a processing gap passes onto the impression cylinder, a compensating movement of the processing cylinder is controlled to maintain the mean speed.
