PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component for a machine structure, which has more excellent fatigue strength than a conventional one. SOLUTION: The component for the machine structure is at least partly quench-hardened, and has the hardened structure which contains former austenite grains with an average diameter of 12μm or smaller, and furthermore, in which the length of grain boundaries of martensite phases that are adjacent to former austenite grain boundaries or packet grain boundaries and that have a crystal orientation difference of 15 degrees or higher, is 90% or higher with respect to the total length of grain boundaries.
