PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite writing instrument which enables a writing tip to protrude from/recede into a leading end of a barrel by knocking on a knock member, which can be prevented from being carelessly knocked on by a simple operation, for example, when carried, which imparts a good appearance to a locking device, and which is not a hindrance to writing and carrying. SOLUTION: A slider, which slides in a proper range in a direction almost perpendicular to the barrel, is provided at the rear end of a rear barrel; a locking part is provided on the front end side of the slider in the axial direction; and a locking step part is formed inside the rear end of each knock member. When the slider is slid and brought near one side in a state wherein the knock member recedes to the rear end side of the rear barrel, the locking part of the slider is engaged with the locking step part of the knock member, so that the advance of the knock member can be inhibited. When the slider is slid to the opposite side, the locking part of the slider is engaged with/disengaged from the locking step part of the knock member, so that the knock member can freely advance.
