PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly adjust an image pickup condition for an newly incoming object into an image pickup region even if the image pickup region changes. SOLUTION: An image pickup apparatus is provided with an image pickup unit for picking up the image of an object; an optical quantity storing unit for storing the optical quantity of the object existing outside the image pickup region of an image picked up by the image pickup unit so that the quantity is correlated to the positional relation between the image pickup unit and the object; an image region change detecting unit for detecting a change in an image pickup region of the image pickup unit; a positional relation predicting unit for predicting the positional relation between the image pickup unit and the object after the positional relation between the image pickup unit and the object has changed on the basis of the change in image pickup region detected by the image pickup region change detecting unit; and an image pickup condition control unit for the image pickup condition of the image pickup unit on the basis of the optical quantity to be stored by the optical storing unit so that the optical quantity is correlated to the positional relation predicted by the positional relation predicting unit.
