PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal having character input/conversion function, a character input/conversion method and its program capable of reducing the number of times of key operations according to the actual use status of Japanese. SOLUTION: A key setting part 20 and a display control part 22 control processing for allocating characters or symbols in lines ranging from an "A" line to a "WA" line to keys for inputting characters, and for executing circulating display by switching a character or symbol allocated to each key each time each key is depressed. Also, a double consonant is allocated to a "*" key for displaying a voiced sound and semi-voiced sound, and a double consonant simple input mode in which the double consonant is inputted when the key is depressed is set.
