PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk array system capable of performing data backup at a high speed without adding a new device. SOLUTION: The disk array system is provided with a disk array, a disk array controller 11, a tape device 24, and a computer 10. The disk array comprises a first disk group (disks 20, 21) in which the load of data writing is larger than that of data reading and a second disk groups (disks 22, 23). The disk array controller 11 performs disk array access control so as to copy differential data from the first disk group to the second disk group in a data backup period. The computer 10 controls the disk array controller 11 and the tape device 24 and copies all data to be backed up from the first disk group to the tape device 24 in the data backup period.
