PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a server, allowing the device connected to a network to be connected to a home server when the home server is present, and to be connected to an outside server when the home server is absent, so as to receive service from the outside. SOLUTION: When a home device 10 is connected to the home network, the home device 10 sends an advertisement document showing that the home device 10 itself is connected, to the home network. It is decided that the home server 20 is present in the home network when a response to the advertisement document is present, and it is decided that the home server 20 is absent when the response to the advertisement document is absent. As a result, the home device 10 is connected to the home server 20 when the home server 20 is present, while the home device 10 is directly connected to the outside server 30 when the home server 20 is absent.
