The laser gun includes a laser emitter and a laser receiver in a housing. The propagation time of pulsed laser beam is detected and used to determine the speed of a vehicle. The laser gun also detects distinguishing characteristics of the vehicle and stores them, displays them, or prints them out. A digital camera may be integrated into the housing.
