<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming system and its method capable of easily obtaining desirable color material reduction quantity and output image at the time of executing printing while saving color materials, and easily performing the operation therefor. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming system has contraction function of contracting image data and tone changing function of changing the tone. This system comprises a saving mode setting means (saving setting key 22b) displaying an operation screen of a contraction means and an operation screen of a tone changing means in parallel to a display screen of an operation part; and a setting data generation means (setting data generation circuit 22e) generating setting data based on operations of the operation screen of the contraction means and the operation screen of the tone changing means.
