PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary switch surely mounted on a dashboard. SOLUTION: A rotary switch to be mounted on a vehicular dashboard has a switch housing (14), a working shaft freely rotatably arranged in the housing (14), a knob (10) mounted on one end of the working shaft, and a surface plate (12) detachably fastened to the housing (14). The surface plate (12) is connected to the housing (14) by means of a fitting mechanism. The mechanism can be released by relative rotation between the surface plate (12) and the housing (14). The knob (10) can be moved at a prescribed rotation position in grooves (26, 28) in the axial direction and joined with the surface plate (12) in a state that the knob (10) is unrotatable by motion in the axial direction. In this state, the knob (10) simultaneously turns thereby the surface plate (12) also turns and latch connection between the surface plate (12) and the housing (14) is released.
