PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure of a light emitting device capable of improving contrast of display, in a passive type (simple matrix type) light emitting device. SOLUTION: In this application, black barrier ribs (reverse taper shapes) used as a black matrix (BM) are formed between pixels on the side of a substrate with a luminescent element formed; and contrast of display is improved by absorbing or shielding stray light from the light emitting element. This passive matrix type light emitting device having a laminated structure composed by forming a metal film having reflectiveness as a lower layer and a transparent oxide conductive film as an upper layer and having a data line is structured.
