Performance of electrohydraulic valves (21-24), is characterized to produce characterization data. Desired movement of hydraulic actuator (16) is specified to derive desired valve-flow coefficient specifying fluid level through valves. Compensated control signal produced from coefficient and characterization data, is corrected to change differential pressure across valves and the valves are actuated based on corrected signal. An independent claim is also included for apparatus for operating electrohydraulic valve.
