<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for measuring blood volume and a vital sign monitor capable of always monitoring variation in the hemodynamics of a patient noninvasively and continuously without requiring a skilled medical person's technique to insert a catheter or the like, lessening the suffering of the patient, with no risk of infection because it is noninvasive, and low in cost. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of measuring the blood volume obtaining cardiac output from a pulse wave propagation time, the cardiac output is obtained from an equation of CO=(αK*PWTT+βK)*HR, wherein CO is the cardiac output, PWTT is the pulse wave propagation time, HR is a heart rate, and α, β, K are coefficients inherent to the patient. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
