PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus in which past images can be held as much as possible on a recording medium of limited capacity without being erased. SOLUTION: The image recording apparatus comprises a recording medium 11 for recording the image data of cameras 3-6 in units of frame, a section 15 for converting the image data of a plurality of frames recorded on the recording medium 11 into one frame of split image, and a control section 14 giving the image converting section 15 with an instruction for converting into a split image when idle capacity of the recording medium 11 is used up, writing one frame of split image converted at the image converting section 15 onto the recording medium 11 and erasing image data before conversion, and repeating the operation every time when idle capacity of the recording medium 11 is used up thus ensuring idle capacity of the recording medium 11.
