PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple host switching method for HDDs which arbitrates for ownership among a plurality of hosts sharing one HDD to properly switch the hosts in a HDD sharing method. SOLUTION: In a system comprising a plurality of hosts, a HDD, and an arbitrating means which arbitrates for access to the HDD among the plurality of hosts, the multiple host switching method for the HDD comprises; initializing the HDD by one of the plurality of hosts; informing the other hosts that initialization has been terminated, by the one host; and transmitting a request for evacuating the HDD from one of the plurality of hosts to the other hosts through the arbitrating means after the end of initialization and giving the right to access the HDD to this host by receiving evacuation permissions showing that the HDD is not used, which are returned from the other hosts.
