PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the preview processing of an image reading apparatus equipped with an interface having a high speed transfer mode and a low speed transfer mode, such as a USB 2.0. SOLUTION: When the USB 2.0 is connected, a Highspeed mode and a Fullspeed mode is judged, and the number of output bits of preview is controlled in a transfer mode by using an output bit control circuit.
