<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter device having a protection circuit construction which can be formed compactly at low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The inverter device detects a lamp current flowing through a low voltage side electrode. and the detected lamp current is synthesized at a plurality of fluorescent tubes. When the synthesized lamp current is lower than a standard current, the inverter device is stopped by operating the protection circuit.
