PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an external stimulation-responding metal porphyrin complex for changing a structure and properties by external stimulation, especially light. SOLUTION: The organometallic complex has a sandwich structure comprising a metal porphyrin derivative represented by general formula (1) (R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>12</SB>are each independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, a carboxy group, a formyl group, an amino group, a hydroxy group, an amide group or a substituent group derived from them; Ligand is an axial ligand; M is a metal) and an axial ligand and causes a structural change by external stimulation. In the metal porphyrin complex, the axial ligand is a chemical species to react to external stimulation. The metal porphyrin complex has a part to cause a photochemical reaction and causes the structural change of the complex by irradiation with light as external stimulation.
