<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of image caused by rotational uneveness of a developing rotary, in a rotary type development device in which a plurality of development units are loaded. <P>SOLUTION: The developing device has a first attachment mode in which development units are attached to all attachments parts of a plurality of development units in the development rotary 4A, and a second attachment mode in which non-attachment parts of the development units are present. In the second attachment mode, balance weights 51 and 52 are attached to the parts having no development units attached thereto, the balance weights having the same attaching configuration as the developments units 4Y, 4M, 4C, and 4BK and being set to the inertial moment which is almost equal to the moment of inertia around the rotary shaft of the developing rotary 4A of each development unit. This makes it possible to steadily drive the developing rotary highly accurately, without causing rotation uneveness.
