<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing optical film capable of quickly manufacturing a liquid crystal compound layer of hybrid alignment which hardly causes schlieren defect. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing optical film, an optical film is manufactured through a process of applying a liquid crystal compound on an alignment film on a substrate and forming the liquid crystal compound layer having an air side interface and an alignment film side interface, a process of heating the liquid crystal compound layer concurrently with the formation of the liquid crystal compound layer or after the formation thereof and subjecting the liquid crystal compound to hybrid alignment such that the difference between the average tilt angle of liquid crystal compound on the air side interface of the liquid crystal compound layer and the average tilt angle of liquid crystal compound on the alignment film side interface of the liquid crystal compound layer becomes ≥10° and a process of applying a magnetic field in such a direction that the difference of tilt angles becomes <10° with respect to the direction of the average tilt angle of the liquid crystal compound on the air side interface of the liquid crystal compound layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
