PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor capable of suppressing to the minimum the degree of damage caused by the collision of comb teeth at a tip of a boarding floor with a tread by rapidly detecting the lift of a front wheel of footsteps. SOLUTION: In the passenger conveyor having a plurality of footsteps 4 which are connected in an endless manner and moved in a circulating manner and a handrail 6 which is erected on both sides of the moving direction of the footsteps 4 to guide a movable handrail 5 synchronously circulating with the footsteps 4 to a peripheral edge in a main frame 2 installed across a lower floor and an upper floor, at least a part of a front wheel holding rail to hold a front wheel 16 of the footsteps 4 from an upper part is movable, and when the movement of the movable front wheel holding rail 20 reaches a predetermined value, a switch is operated to stop the passenger conveyor.
