The present invention relates to a stable biocompatible composition comprising: (a) a carrier selected from the group consisting of fats, oils, waxes and mixtures thereof; and (b) particles of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of water-insoluble fullerenes, wherein said particles are dispersed and/or dissolved in said carrier. In a preferred embodiment, particles of water-insoluble fullerenes are micronized. The above composition may be used to protect metazoans against damages caused by oxidative stress involving free radicals.
