<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly decrease brightness of a copy image while holding saturation when the brightness is adjusted to darker brightness. <P>SOLUTION: A brightness adjustment part 14 is capable of making the lightness of the copy image brighter or darker than a standard brightness value. When the brightness adjustment part 14 adjusts the lightness to darker than the standard brightness value, a γ characteristic of a read γ correction part 112 is fixed to a γ characteristic of the standard brightness value and a γ characteristic of a read γ correction part 115 is fixed to a γ characteristic corresponding to the adjusted brightness value to make γ corrections of image data of color components M, Y and K with the γ characteristic.
