PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable data storage device provided with an encryption function. SOLUTION: A portable data storage device includes a non-volatile memory 3 for storing user data, an interface section 7 for transmitting and receiving data to and from a host, and a master control unit 1 for moving data from/to the non-volatile memory 3. The portable data storage device further includes an integrated circuit 13 for generating a pair of public and private keys. The portable data storage device is configured to transmit at least one of the keys to the outside of the device. In another embodiment, the host can performs collation whether or not data are right, and the device can perform the collation whether or not the host receives the right data.
