Systems and methods for responding to a data transfer are disclosed. One embodiment comprises a method that includes the following steps: retrieving an operator preference for a smooth representation or a sharp representation, determining a sustainable data transfer rate for streaming information to an auxiliary memory medium, selecting a set of operational parameters responsive to the operator preference and the sustainable data transfer rate, and applying the set of operational parameters to generate a data stream.
