FIELD: polymer production. ^ SUBSTANCE: production of hydrophobic associative polymer comprises (i) preparation of monomer solution containing surfactant, at least one hydrophobic ethylenically unsaturated monomer, at least one hydrophilic monomer selected from nonionic ethylenically unsaturated monomers, cationic ethylenically unsaturated monomers, anionic ethylenically unsaturated monomers, and mixtures thereof, and water; (ii) preparation of salt solution including salt containing multivalent anion or cation, stabilizer, and water; (iii) mixing monomer solution with salt solution to form mixed solution; and (iv) adding initiator solution to mixed solution resulting in polymerization of monomers to produce hydrophobic associative polymer. ^ EFFECT: avoided oil and surfactant impurities in polymer product. ^ 13 cl, 6 tbl, 6 ex |
