<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-treating oven, advantageous for inhibiting the plugging of its discharging port caused by a residual material such as tar, etc., and a method for operating the oven. <P>SOLUTION: This heat-treating oven is equipped with a heat-treating chamber 2 for performing the heat treatment on a raw material, a feeding port 90 for feeding the raw material to the heat-treating chamber 2, a discharging port 91 for discharging a treated material such as a carbonized material, etc., in the heat-treating chamber 2 and a discharging device 94 for conveying the treated material discharged from the discharging port 91. By stopping the conveying device 94 or slowing the discharging speed, the filling density of the treated material at the discharging port 91 is increased.
